Robert credits his many years studying painting for his advanced understanding of color, shading, and blending. He also attended college seminars in photography to better appreciate the way in which photographic techniques and lighting affect makeup. Rather than take a one size fits all approach, Robert attempts to bring out the unique personal beauty of the talent, whether she's a model or not.

Robert counts old films, especially those featuring Barbra Streisand and Audrey Hepburn, as among his greatest artistic influences.
