Bethany Garita / Men’s Grooming
My approach to makeup is a lot like painting with watercolors. Fluid, layered, and always letting the subject’s natural beauty shine through. I don’t believe in covering people up. I believe in enhancing what’s already there and letting that person’s energy lead the look. Whether I’m doing a clean beauty ad or an editorial story, I always start by observing the skin, the mood, and the light.
I’m a visual person through and through, so when I’m not on set, I’m usually sketching, painting, or flipping through old art books. Illustration is still a big love of mine, and it’s one of the ways I stay creatively grounded. That, and hanging with my son. He reminds me how to see beauty in the little things.
Shreveport, Louisiana. Southern roots, always.
Most people don’t know I came into makeup through traditional art. Before I was blending concealer, I was blending oils and acrylics on canvas as well as dabbling in water coloring. I still illustrate digitally when I can, and that fine art background definitely shapes the way I see color, texture, and balance on the faces.
