Brianna Lujan – HMU

WHEN I’M NOT WORKING:

I’m always trying to find new ways to keep my hands busy, whether it’s writing, drawing, or creating something entirely new. When I’m not working on a craft project, I’m probably out at a local concert, dancing around to my newest favorite song or with my film camera in hand taking photos of things that inspire me.

BORN AND RAISED:

I grew up in El Paso, Texas. There’s nothing quite like the desert landscape—it feels so different from the rest of Texas, even down to the time zone. El Paso is also where I began my journey as a hairstylist.

BEST IMPULSIVE DECISION:

When I was about 20 years old, I had just wrapped up my apprenticeship back in El Paso, TX. At that point in my life I knew there was a whole world out there that I hadn’t seen yet, and I was so bright-eyed and eager about the endless possibilities. I had never been to Austin before, but it felt like the perfect fit from everything I had heard about this city. So, I packed up my little compact car, which could barely hit 60 mph on the highway, with nothing but my hair kit, clothes, and my dog. Twelve years later, I’m still here, embracing the city’s growth and all the changes that have come with it. I’ve built an amazing community, made so many memories, and can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW:

My first internship was actually as a video editor. Not only did I help with editing, but I also went on location to help film the small local commercials you’d see on regular cable.
